Thirst Quenched! gMAX Cyclone Vessel

The Challenge
A Saskatchewan steel mill required a new filtration solution for its quench water. The self-cleaning system being replaced required costly and time-consuming service and maintenance frequently due to poor and inconsistent performance.
The Solution
When presented with the problem, Welco’s engineering team and service experts explored several options for the client and recommended the FLSmidth gMAX® Cyclone Vessel.
The unit utilizes hundreds of small cyclones to accommodate the design capacity of 1850 gpm.
In this application the system efficiently removes 100% of particles greater than 5 μm without the need for filter media.
Solids collect in the bottom of the vessel and are discharged to a sump.
The Outcome
Following several months of reliable, uninterrupted performance, the vessel has far exceeded expectations for both performance and ease-of-operation.
